The Mitch and Val "Roadshow"

The Mitch and Val “Roadshow” is coming to an RV park near you! After dropping our youngest boys off at their freshman year at college in August 2014, we are traveling the U.S. in a 2014 Thor Tuscany 45LT motorhome called the HMS Love Shack, and towing a 2014 Hyundai Veloster.

Val and Mitch in Vegas, baby! January 2015. And yes, we are very tall. 🙂

Our mission is to visit friends and family, visit National Parks, tag states we’ve never been to, and decide where we want to live next. We were tired of the long, dark winters in New England and wanted to live “Someplace Warmer and Cheaper Than Massachusetts,” which isn’t too hard. Criteria for our new home include palm trees and skiing close enough for a day trip. Or maybe we’ll just live in the RV indefinitely!

What we do for work: Mitch has worked from home as a consultant to early-stage IT businesses since 2001. Val has worked from home as a freelance science & technology writer and journalist since 2006. We can work from anywhere we have phone and internet — so we can work from almost anywhere! Are we lucky or what?

One of our goals is to help raise awareness of how  it’s possible to  live and work while traveling full time, and what to expect in the RVing life. It’s an awesome life, and very fulfilling! We made a bold move to do what we love, and live  the life of our dreams  (as much as possible, anyway). We hope to inspire others to do the same.

Good for you guys. I see you have visited our Las Vegas Oasis! Nice place. We will be starting our trip around the US this coming March1st. Heading for Alaska for a caravan first, and then ferry back to British Columbia and begin out solo journey down and across the US. We hope to visit the north western states, the east coast, Florida Keys and then back across the southwest as winter approaches. Our joke is that we will be gone for 4-5 months, or two weeks, depending on how it goes. I will be reading your blog from the beginning to see what you have done a get some ideas! Happy trails.

Hey guys. Much of what your doing is the same as what we’re doing and planning. We have a 2014 Thor Tuscany 45LT in the same paint scheme as yours and seeing the country and trying to find a place to land, eventually. I just wonder if you have had the same experiences with HMS Love Shack as we have had with “the Rig”? While we don’t work out of the Rig, we left that work stuff behind, I find it interesting that so many folks have found away to fund themselves while doing what they want.

Hey Larry, another 2014 Thor Tuscany 45LT! How about that? We’ve never met anyone else with the exact same rig. We would love to compare notes! Our blog and our facebook page (www.facebook.com/rvluckyorwhat) document a lot of our trials and tribulations. Do you write about your experiences?

    Val,

We don’t write about our travel and experiences so much. My wife does genealogy research for our families and I just research things that interest me. Although Cindy has a Facebook page for her genealogy followers and we have a website for family and friends to follow we do not usually detail to a great degree our travels.

I really don’t remember how I saw a posting from you but I noticed you folks had the same rig as ours. And was wondering what problems you may have had.

    Take care

Oh boy. We kept a spreadsheet of problems. We counted EIGHTY issues/problems/repairs needs in EIGHT months. Just about every one of them was covered under warranty. We have written about the problems so much, we’ll never be able to sell our unit, lol!

One of the first posts we wrote about the problems was here: https://rvluckyorwhat.com/2014/09/21/we-did-what-they-say-never-to-do-buy-a-new-rv/

And we have a category of blogs called “RV Trouble :S” that we’d love to share with you! We have met owners of all sorts of rigs in the service centers and RV parks — Tiffins, Phaetons, Winnebagos, Thor, Newmar — you name it, they’re all busy fixing things.

Actually, an amendment, the first 24 or so items were the initial punch list that the dealer took care of in the month before we took delivery. So it’s really 80 items in 10 months.

      Hi Ken!
Congratulations! We wouldn’t trade it for the world, after the first 6 to 8 months of breaking it in. We feel strongly that a used coach that has been well-taken care of should be worth more than a new one!

We hope yours came with an after-market water pressure regulator, a power monitoring system (for feedback and power regulating at 50A electrical posts), and that the motor on the front windshield shades has been replaced/is working properly (if not, call United Shade and they’ll ship you a new one). We added an extra water filter in the wet bay, and learned to belt our refrigerator door on the first day! You might enjoy starting to read about our adventures (including what happened the first day we drove out of the dealership with our new rig) here: Hello World! It’s the Mitch and Val Roadshow!

We highly recommend you look into an extended warranty. If you go through this link: Wholesale Warranties info for a free quote from Wholesale Warranties, you’ll get a discount if you end up buying one through them. And don’t forget to buy that state sticker map!

What are you doing for internet? It is deathly slow at Gouldings? Cell service is poor and slow.
