The Mitch and Val “Roadshow” has been to 44 U.S. states and counting since July 22, 2014.*
We are really excited to spend some time in Montana and Idaho this summer 2018! We have thoroughly enjoyed extensive exploration of California, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Colorado the past two years. But Idaho and Montana were states that we merely “stopped in” on our way elsewhere. With one exception — we did actually plan to go to Glacier National Park our first year of full-time RV traveling in 2015. You don’t “pass through” Glacier on your way to someplace else. It’s so remote, up on the Montana/Alberta border that you have to go out of your way to “go there.” Not to mention the season to “go there” is barely eight weeks long! But go there we did! Glacier NP won our double-blind taste test of “Best Things We’ve Seen Our First Year on the Road.” And one week was not enough.
So we’re going back! We did some research on the best of Idaho and Montana, considering our interests in natural beauty, hiking, photographic majesty and Old West Americana. We picked quite a few special spots to focus on in these two beautiful states in July and August! Glacier is at the top of the pile and one of the major drivers of our summer itinerary. We also were compelled to revisit the jewel of the southwest, Lake Powell, again on the border of southern Utah and northern Arizona, even though it’s out of the way with respect to the rest of the itinerary. It’s worth it!
And while we’re down in Arizona, we have been meaning to get to that Sky Walk thing (the glass suspended catwalk) at Grand Canyon West, so we’re going there! And we’ll rest up with a romantic weekend revisiting Sedona before winding things down … or shall we say up! …at Lake Havasu!

What’s next…? Val wants to stay put for a few months! We have a wedding to plan! 😉
*We have visited 44 states (92%) of the lower continental U.S. states in the Love Shack. States that the Love Shack hasn’t had wheels in: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Ohio and Rhode Island (although Mitch has personally been to all of those, and Val has been to all 49 but Alaska). Apologies to you lower 48 outcasts. It’s nothing personal. 😉 As for Hawaii and Alaska, neither are likely for the Love Shack. However, Val’s interest in the cold north is very piqued by the exotic plethora of birds she might encounter there. Someday she hopes to get to Alaska so she can join the “All 50 States” club. But it’ll likely be by boat, plane or rental RV. We’ve put far too much love into the Love Shack to sacrifice her windshield and innards to the bad-ass buckin’ truckin’ roads of the Yukon and beyond.
Happy summer and see you in the warm places!
