SPRING IN THE SOUTHEAST

We are really excited to hang out in the Southeastern US this spring! We plan to drive over 6500 miles on the Love Shack from mid-Feb to mid-May!! :O We have PLAAANS!!

FIRST, we’re hightailing it from the Southwest all the way to Key West, FL, starting Feb. 17, 2019 because…we’re getting married there!! We have had some wonderful times on the Southernmost Island of Key West, so we have planned an intimate destination wedding there with our closest friends and family. Most of them are on the East Coast, and we wanted someplace warm (of course), so Key West was a natural choice and one we could get excited about.

After a honeymoon in Costa Rica — PURA VIDA, BABY! — we will be RVing around the southeast until May, when Valerie’s son Richard is scheduled to graduate from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. We also have Mitch’s son Greg graduating from the University of Utah, so we will fly there to see him graduate. To finish out the spring, we have picked quite a few special spots to focus on in Florida, Louisisana, the Carolinas, Tennesee, and Arkansas! National Parks are driving our visit, as well as seeing friends and family.

While in Key West, we are eager to finally visit Dry Tortugas National Park, which we missed when our plans were scuttled several years ago due to a missed connecting flight to Key West. Val has long-lost friends that we hope to visit in Panama City Beach, FL, a city that suffered devastation in Hurricane Michael in October 2018. Also, a visit to Val’s parents’ home in Aiken, SC, is overdue, along with a visit to little-known Congaree National Park, 1.5 hours from her parents — yet they’d never heard of it!

A visit to hippy-funk town Asheville, NC, is also at the top of the pile! We plan to visit friends in Pineglen, NC, and family in Nashville! Then we’ll hit Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas — another jewel we have missed our travels so far.

Let us know if we’ll be crossing paths!

*We have visited 44 states (92%) of the lower continental U.S. states in the Love Shack. States that the Love Shack hasn’t had wheels in: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Ohio and Rhode Island (although Mitch has personally been to all of those, and Val has been to all 49 but Alaska). Apologies to you lower 48 outcasts. It’s nothing personal. 😉 As for Hawaii and Alaska, neither are likely for the Love Shack. However, Val’s interest in the cold north is very piqued by the exotic plethora of birds she might encounter there. Someday she hopes to get to Alaska so she can join the “All 50 States” club. But it’ll likely be by boat, plane or rental RV. We’ve put far too much love into the Love Shack to sacrifice her windshield and innards to the bad-ass buckin’ truckin’ roads of the Yukon and beyond.

Happy 2019 and see you in the warm places!

Val and Mitch
